I've had some alpines in pots for a while now as I hadn't been fit enough to prepare the plot for them. It's actually getting close to being ready now but I'm a bit concerned about planting them in this cold weather. At the moment they are in the (cold) greenhouse. I know not to plant when it's frosty but do you think they'll be okay as long as it's mild when I do so even though frost might come at night? I'll be placing pea gravel around them.

I'd personally leave it until temps were around 10 degrees. Soil has amaizing insulating properties so any cold soil that is buried will remain cold for much longer,

The first 2 weeks of February are forecast mild. I think if I plant them then, in extra compost at room temperature and cover with fleece I might get away with it. Thanks for your answer though, if I hadn't asked I'd possibly have lost some.
