GWD member nominations for the top plants which have changed the look of gardens over the last 50 years are listed above. Members have up to 3 votes, and we will vote again for the top plant from the 3 highest scorers if voting is close, unless there is a clear winner The poll will close in a weeks time, please select all those you want to vote for before you submit your response. The results will not be shown until after the poll closes next Saturday. ,,

I voted for one, then got called away and forgot to vote for the other 2, so that's why the voting figures don't add up , this is also why I shouldn't be on here when I'm at work

Well it was a close run contest, with Clematis just winning by 1 point with Hellebores and Dahlias joint second. Well done Barbara for nominating our winning plant Interesting in that neither clematis or hellebores were put forward in the Gardeners World 50th anniversary Golden Jubilee Plant nominations. I wonder what will come out tops in their poll!

Yes I wondered what would win their poll too Tig, will the result be on friday? Clematis, like so many of the plants we have, are so much more available today than they were many years ago. I think one of the biggest barriers to buying clems for novice gardeners, is that the pruning seems so complicated. When I joined GWD I might have had 1 clem, now I've lost count of how many I have.

Thanks Ron,, I could grow them fine in East Anglia, but have not got one to establish down here You don't see them much in Cornish gardens, so I assume others struggle too

What a surprise result. Personally they are my least favourite plant in the poll. Well done, a most enjoyable poll.
