Hi everyone! It's taken me a while but I'm now making my first post I'm not really a gardener and have a bad history of killing plants. Anyhow we've got some house plants but we don't know their names. Would it be OK to post some photos of said plants for forum members to tell us their names? I want to get it right this time with watering and location.

Welcome Nazz
I know all these house plants but the names....mmmh...
No 1 - thought it was Pilea Cadierei (aluminum Plant) but on second thoughts I don't think it is... No 5 is the Peace Lily - Spathiphyllum No 7 could be Sanseveria (Mother-in-Law's Tongue, Snake Plant)
I shall have to have a think about the others @nazz,....hopefully someone else will know...

One interesting fact and totally useless info is that Mother in laws tongue is the only plant i know that doesn't come true when propagated vegetively. Let me explain...
The only sure way of getting the exact same plant is to take cuttings, known as vegetive propagation (it can be done by division too). Cuttings carry the exact blueprint as their parents where as seeds risk being cross pollenated by other plants in the same species.
Your plant above...mother in laws tongue or Sanseveria trifasciata 'laurentii' can be easily propagated by taking leaf cuttings but the young plants that emerge will not have the gold edge to the leaves...they will just be green.
To reproduce the gold edge, they must be divided.
I'm full of absolute rubbish like this....but it's true!!!!

I'm full of absolute rubbish like this....but it's true!!!! you may think it's rubbish but this growing a plant from a plant is just way beyond my level of ability. I can water (usually overwater ) and talk to the plants but anything else is beyond me. I'm not a gardener; I've never been around gardeners; I've never taken the time to find out how to do these things; it's so much easier to buy another plant, sigh. It must be extremely satisfying to grow your own plants in this way. I wish I had the time to do the online research and get some practical experience.

^^^ Yep, that's pretty much all rubbish lol. Maybe you need to find time and enjoy these things....afterall, you're a long time dead!!!!! It maybe easier to just go out and buy a plant but it's nowhere near as fun or as rewarding as growing your own from cuttings or seeds. You'll get plenty of help on here so keep asking the questions.

I second that Andy. I usually get cuttings at plant swaps and now have a plant growing that I know the Dutch name off as it is a regular in house plants. I tried Google translate for English but I am so not going to post what it translated as... Latin is Gymnocalycium or so Google tells me. However this one has special flowers and once it does flower I will post a pic with a big question mark as I would like to know what it is.

Ah bggr Google, I checked and it is not a cacti but something else. Epiphyllum but which one? The waiting game is on. See @nazz plant people can be quite mad. And infectuous. I hope you like that

Dutchy madness is OK by me gardening is not natural to me even though I grew up in the countryside. We had a big garden with lots of vegetables but I was more interested in kicking a ball around the lawn and into the veg patches. Now I've only got houseplants and a naughty kitten who thinks digging is fun
