I've looked back a few pages but I can't see a similar thread so I've started this one. I've had some success with growing veg in containers. We dont have a big garden or an allotment so we are restricted when it comes to veg plots. I'm using very large pots...the smallest being 16" diameter. The bigger the better I've found. Altho some veg have done better than others, maybe that's because I haven't found the right variety to grow in a container yet.
We had a reasonably good potato harvest this year...I had 7 x 20" pots each with 2 seed potatoes in 5 x Charlotte and 2 x Rocket. Most went in in late Mach but I got given a few seed potatoes so they went in a couple of weeks later. I usually keep then in a row against the south west facing fence, but OH moved them to the back of the garden out of the way. Despite this we had a good crop...several bookings anyway...I kept meaning to weigh them
Sweetcorn was a complete failure I think that I just had too many plants in the 24" tub, started off in pots then transplanted into the tub. The cobs formed but were stunted and wrinkly, not enough water probably.
Sugar snap peas : these usually do really well in a tub, but this year they struggled in the extremely hot weather, I just couldnt maintain enough watering. We got quite a good crop but nothing like we usually do.
Carrots in a REALLY BIG, quite deep tub. We have had a very good harvest after a rubbish one over the last 2 years. They'd have been quite happy left in the tub until we needed to use them but OH harvested the lot..so I had an afternoon scraping, scalding, drying, bagging and freezing!
This year I experimented with my tomatoes...planted into a growbag and grown outside. Not good. Back in the GH next year.

I bought 3 fruit pillar trees, 2 are in pots, this is the first year so I'll have to wait and see how they go on, I have grown lots of potatoes in different containers over the years always with good results, mostly they don't get pesky pests
