When we closed down our koi pool last year we decided that we still wanted the sound of water, so we decided to have a fountain. So we went to Bents garden centre, probably the biggest in Europe, but it was a waste of time. The only tradional looking ones we could find were cheap looking plastic ones. Very disappointing. We wanted one that looked old, so I had a look on the internet. We settled on this a Massarelli, they are made in the USA and a small British firm imported a containerfull of assorted fountains, once a year. We were lucky as they were "on the way" when we ordered it and tyhere would be the one we wanted in it..
We had the ideal place for it, over the pump sump for the closed down koi pool.
There were cables to the pumps in it from the garage threaded through an alkathene pipe buried in the concrete raft around the pool. They were of course used for the 240 volt pumps, but one could be used to supply the low voltage to the fouintain's pump and LED light.
The sump was connected by a 4" pipe down and along to the bottom of the pool to the bottom drain. As I'd drilled holes through the pool concrete screed base and the bottom drain before the pool was filled in, the sump would remain dry. A circular concrete stepping stone fitted over the top of the sump perfectly.
I drilled a hole through the centre of the stepping stone for the cable. I had to manhandle the fountain off the pallet on which it was delivered (all 71 kilos of it) onto the stone. I made up some dyed cement mortar to match the fountain and bedded it in.
We like to think it fits in well with its surroundings.
We've a lot of lights in the garden, controlled by four switches behind the lounge curtains. One turns on the fountain and a low voltage spotlight on the pergpla trained on it.

It looks like it has been there for years. I love lights in the garden, we don't have any outside power sources so all ours are solar powered. The row of low kerbstones would have to go for me to be safe in your garden, I can trip over my own feet these days and would be bound to trip over those

What a lovely place to sit on an evening, I’m with Tig, though, as we get older we can’t afford any tripping hazards! I’m very nervous now in case I fall, breaking my wrist falling has caused me all sorts of problems.

They were originally covered the water return fron the koi pool filter in the garage, My attempt to make it look like a bridge.
After I closed down the pool they weren't really in the way, so I've left them.
