Tig and anyone else who fancies this, it takes 5mins to make and 40mins in the oven. 425g wholemeal flour 75g self raising flour Tea spoon salt 2 Teaspoons of baking soda 1 pint of buttermilk porridge oats to sprinkle on top or any sunflower or squash seeds or nothing at all whatever you fancy. Put all dry ingredients into a bowl and stir until well mixed. Make a hole in the centre and add the buttermilk and mix well so there is no dry flour around. Pour into a prepared loaf tin (greased and then wholemeal flour added to cover) Into oven at 190c for 20 mins then reduce oven to 160c for a further 20 mins. I made 2 loaves but Majella says if your loaf tin is bigger you could make just one with about the same length in the oven give 5 or 10 mins. Keeps a couple of days and tastes delicious.

Thank you LG, that sounds quite simple, I'll add buttermilk to my shopping list and give it a go next week.

I've just googled and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice per 250ml of semi-skimmed milk so just under 2 tablespoons in a pint should work. Thanks LG.

Tig when you make the well to add the milk, add a tablespoon of oil, forgot to write that on the main recipe and only realised this morning when I was making it.
