Plocket, so sorry about Poppy - I lost my cat after 16 years of companionship, so you have all my sympathy ...

So sad you've not found her Plocket . I hope she's safe in Kitty heaven (or some kind little old lady's kitchen). Many years ago I spotted a neighbours very elderly cat hiding in my garden, in a terrible state. I called them, and they came and took him to the vet, with the obvious outcome I often wonder if I did him a favour or he wanted to do it his way

Oh NO that's so sad. It's natural to try and help an animal so I'm convinced you did the right thing. And it meant that the neighbours had a chance to say goodbye to their pet.

I miss her dreadfully, but am getting used to it now thanks your Lordship. I keep telling myself she was only a cat, but I've known her longer than OH and LP!!! We'll probably get another moggy one day, but not quite yet.

Plocket! She was NOT only a cat, you know that is not so. She was YOUR cat and you loved her very much (and still do) We all understand how you feel You know there is no such thing as "only" when it comes to our pets I think you should get a new one to cuddle. Look how much having little Schmickles has helped April

Oh you know what I mean NO - she was incredibly precious to me but she was just a cat, and I know you all understand how I feel. I didn't mean it in any nasty sense. I'll leave getting a cat for a little while, but I can't imagine being without one for long. And I'm going to be fussy when the time comes!!!

Sorry Plocket, I know you weren't being nasty - just trying to convince yourself it wasn't the end of the world (when it was really) I don't know if you get the chance to be fussy when it comes to getting a cat I think they choose you, and then set about worming their way into your heart.

Oh bless you NO - I did guess what you meant I guess they do choose you - I sort of got Poppy by accident. My friend wanted a cat and a friend's cat had conveniently given birth to a couple of kittens. When she went to collect her moggy the owner said that she hadn't found a home for the second kitten so N agreed to have them both. Within a few days she realised she couldn't cope with two so I took on the female, Poppy as it turned out. N called her male cat Freddie but he only lived for a couple of years because he was run over. And Poppy was much more attractive than her chunky brother! ;D To be honest I wouldn't know where to start looking for a kitten - any ideas? Put it this way, I don't know anyone with a cat!!!

RSPCA!!
This will probably sound awful but it's actually a cheaper way of getting one as well as giving one a loving home. Our local one charges £41 or so for a cat and they're neutered, all injections up to date, treated for fleas and worms and are microchipped. We got Schmickles from a friend of the family and it cost £43 just to have her done.
We're going to get her another play mate after we've moved into the new house and we'll be getting it from Bryn Y Maen RSPCA where we got Eric from. They're really good with supporting you etc before and after and give you all the help/advice you need. I think they're great ;D

The wabbit is a sociopath but we are doing our best to get her to warm to us. She's slowly getting better! ;D Ooooh Cats Protection League too - thanks I'll check them out. I found my local RSPCA last night but there were problems with the site so I'll look again today. Thanks! I won't get a purely white cat coz I'm not so keen on them (famous last words!!) but other than that am not fussy

Yeah, I forgot about the CPL, probably because their nearest branch is a fair drive from us, Bryn Y Maen is only over the other side of the valley and will be even nearer when we move house.
I agree P, as long as it's a cat, I'm not fussy about the colour although OH doesn't want a ginger one for some reason...

April - I've had several ginger cats over the years all neutered males and they do seem to be the most soppy and affectionate of all cats. My current one Fred is the most soppy of the lot so far and I wouldn't be without him.

Tigger my ginger tom isn't the most affectionate cat I've had I'm sorry to say.

True, white cats are prone to deafness and black cats are harder to see... but so is Schmickles when she feels like it! Shadda never moved far enough to be trodden on lol

I'm not going to have any pre-conceived ideas when we start looking (which will be a while yet I hasten to add!). I also need to consider whether the new moggy will be allowed upstairs, which means cat-hairs on the beds!!!!! I've got used to leaving all the downstairs doors open and rather like it ;D
