we have a pair of peacocks. p & pop. £60 for p & £40 for pop. they are beautiful. it takes 3yrs for the male to mature. they live between 14 to 17 yrs. last year p made her nest on top of our retired landrover. palm sized egg. i think pop was too young. she did n't cover properly the first day, so over 6 weeks i gradually withdrew the eggs. the 1st year they hid in the barns. did n't have to clip they're wings. sounded like pair of daft ducks. however, yr 2, he found his voice!!! in our wee village we have a church, with a bell that likes to say hello to saint agnes (a virgin martyr) 96 times at 7 o'clock in the morning. well apparently pop decided that he may have some competition flew over the wall and positioned himself close to the rather large noisy phallic church tower. the ensuing rivalry began........

There's a guy up the lane from us who breeds all manner of birds. He has a peacock and it's lovely to hear him call (the peacock that is!) on a summer evening.

I think peacocks are cool! They are such preposterous birds and when they get stroppy BOY do they get stroppy!!! How much land do you have then SS? And do they bother any other pets/animals you might have?
And although your peacocks sound expensive, the initial cost for the two is still less than half it cost to set up LP with her bunny, hutch and stuff ;D

The farm just over the way from us has them and it's quite eerie first thing on a spring/ summer morning hearing them. They do tend to sit in the middle of the lane and challenge to cars though!! I've always wanted Reeves Pheasants.
