Have the babies gone to good homes F-A - I think you will all be very happy - am very excitied for you Keep us posted please I don't know what homes the babies have gone to Jen. Nothing to do with me. It's down to the breeder to assess the suitability of the purchasers. I just know we'll give Fickle a good home in her retirement years and that she'll be well loved. FA x

It's nice that the breeder cares - before I was allowed to have an Afghan - i had to have a visit from the Breeder and then two follow up visits

Any news on Fickle FA?? Do the breeders have her insured and can you take it on if they do? I would recommend it if she hasn't got any.
We caluculated, and I know this sounds a bit morbid, that GSP's live about 10-13 years. At £220ish a year that's about £2600 over a lifetime. One broken leg can be 3 times that much. We've already had a barbed wire tear repaired for £300 so over all I'd rather pay out the bit and know I can get the best care for my dog over his lifetime.

She is insured Amo and we're probably going to take that on - we need to discuss it with the breeder. It's not too bad though as Mrs FA is a vet nurse and works at our local vet so we get all medication at cost price and a reduced rate on operations and consultations etc.
The breeder called tonight. We can have her whenever we want ! Mrs FA is going to ring tomorrow and make the arrangements.

I am NOT a happy bunny. The breeder phoned today and said that Fickle still has 4 puppies that are awaiting collection and she thinks that Fickle might pine for them and be unsettled if we take her tomorrow. We're now having to wait until Monday.
Although it is probably best for Fickle & the pups for her to stay with them until they've all gone, I don't understand why yesterday she said we could have her today and now she's changed her mind. The kids have been in tears over it. I'm wondering if the truth is that she's having 2nd thoughts about giving her away.

If she cares about the dogs she probably doesn't want her or the puppies to fret FA. Perhaps the pups are being collected over the bank holiday weekend? Fickle may settle down quicker with you if her pups have already gone when you get her, I'm sure it will be a big upheaval for everyone, including her x Tig

I understand that Tig. I just don't understand why yesterday she said it would be ok for us to have her today and now today she says she wants to keep her until all the puppies have gone. Why has she changed her mind in 24 hours ?
I actually think that she should stay with her puppies until they are all collected. We thought they already had been, that's why we agreed to take her.
The most annoying thing is that we told the kids yesterday that we would be getting her and Mrs FA took them on a shopping trip to Pets at Home to buy a bed, bowls, collar, lead, toys etc. They've been bursting with excitement all day and now we've had to let them down. They both had loads of tears about it.

Oh that's a bad do FA. You and your wife can cope with that but for little kids it was probably akin to the end of the world. Perhaps the breeder doesn't have kids.
I do hope you get her on Monday. I'm getting all excited myself now!!

Kids are resilient FA as you know (your daughter coped with the sight of her Dad in a crumpled heap after falling off a path and hurting himself!) Here's to many happy years with a beautiful addition to the family, regular pooper scooping, wet smelly dog days, muddy paws, chewed toys, etc, etc

No. She's reached the end of her breeding usefulness so the breeder just wants rid of her. We've offered her a home and we're having her for nothing.

Fickle is obviously a lovely dog, but having that many litters out of a bitch is dreadful, that breeder should be ashamed of themselves. I am so glad you and your family are having her, giving her a proper home and lots of love and cuddles ;D ;D

Yes I thought so F-A jut wanted to check so what on earth can be the reason the breeder wants to keep her - the puppy excuse to me isnt valid - Fickle will be fed up with the puppies by now and want some peace and quiet Poor Fickle and poor you and kiddies - am sure it will all be OK by Monday
