the bag of compost probably cost more than the spuds would have, but i was quite impressed with my "three spuds from the back of the cupboard" variety ! ;D

Hi Mrskp
It just goes to show that its worth having a go. Ive also had good results from left over spuds in the past but never sure of what variety they were.

I've got some very late-planted Javelins in containers on the go - and rootling about in their compost I can feel there's something down there...

We've now eaten the contents of two of our potato pots, and they were just scrummy! Two seed potatoes in each pot, leading to enough for five meals for both of us, and the Seedling thinks it's all buried treasure!
Anyone know the name of the blue/purple variety which I think was on Friday's GW special...?

Mrs KP - Yay! I planted my "C" word (day after 24 December) spuds (Vivaldi) "from the back of cupboard" today in 80 litre compost bags minus the expensive compost. Margi - The spuds on Gardeners' World were imaginatively called "Salad Blue". Either I have a photographic memory capable of dealing with a Friday night's wine quaffing, or I have worked out how to use the video recorder....

Hi Margi! Although I didn't see last week's GW special I can say that there are several of that type on the market. My fav is Kestrel, a second early variety intended for July lifting, smooth with purple eyes. Oh! It makes good chips & roasts too because its soft flesh doesn't absorb much fat.....but I know you wouldn't wish to know that!

Well done mrskp. I never thought I'd be jealous of a Millwall fan Margi, that has to be the best avatar on GWD

Thanks Welshblue
I just wish I could get the bleeping thing moving - it's supposed to be animated, but I can't get it to work...
BTW If you really wanted the avatar, you're now jealous of a Leeds United fan as well!!!
