I've signed it - I think they are doing damage to some very special wildlife areas because of the Olympic juggernaut....

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that I was one of the people who didn't think that the Olympics should be held in this country - at least not in London anyway. There just isn't enough space, and this issue prooves it. Did the powers that be really think people would sit back and allow their allotments to be destroyed? It's crazy! I won't be signing online (let's not go into all that again) but will certainly be writing to my MP.

and I am going to stick my neck out even more than anyone else and ask that someone explains it all to me.
I have read the thread and link and I do not think that I fell of a Christmas tree but I still haven't understood totally all that is going on.

RF basically what they want to do is to wipe out a whole allotment site that has been there for 100 years to make a walk way to the Olympic stadium - the petition is asking them to make the allotments part of the site/park instead of destroying them.

I shall join Plocket above the parapet and say that I think the whole thing is a bit daft. We can't even build a National footie stadium without it turning into a fiasco...I dread to think what going to happen with the Olympic stuff - they have already steamrollered over some wonderful and important wild life areas which were run down and neglected by the urban planners. We will all be paying for it in some way or other for decades...

Isn't it astonishing they haven't been offered a permanent replacement site as a PR exercise - though quite where that could be in the vast redevelopment area that would still be accessible is difficult to see. It's a real tragedy for these people, and for what good it will do them, I wish them well in their campaign.

ps. woke to hear BBC 5live was featuring the new Lea Valley Olympic training arena this morning, so got up at an hour normally only reserved for fishing and emailed the two links above to them, suggesting they put a researcher onto it...
