Hi all, Just wanted to tell some like minded people that today I planted my first produce on my newly acquired allotment. They were Japanese onion sets and I feel really chuffed with myself. Just need to keep my fingers croosed that they will grow OK. Next on the list is Garlic, when I can find some. All of the outlets that I have tried don't seem to have any at the moment. MP1

I got mine from my local Wyevale about 2 weeks ago. We have to be careful buying bulbs there as they keep them inside - so they need to be bought before they put the heating on LL x

Thats what we did. We found out we have 220 alloments in our town alone. I didn't know we had so many.! We haven't got through to them yet on the phone. - As to how long the waiting list is. I will let you know as soon as I can. Quite excited though even If I don't know how we will fit it all in. Alicat.

Hi karenwl
Just get in touch with York City Council - think they have their leisure office in Back Swinegate ( or via their website). I got my allotment through them, but I do think they have waiting lists on some sites. thay were really helpful and will put you in touch with an allotment site secretary so you can view any vacant plots.

Hi, Thanks for that LL I will keep trying local GC for a bit longer. Karen, I just got in touch with my local council and received a list of allotment secretaries with contact numbers of sites in Birmingham. How I actually got one though was to visit the site closest to where I live and wanted a plot and saw the secretary there one Sunday morning. There was a sign saying 'Plots to Let' and the times when you could apply in person. There wasn't many available but I only wanted a small plot and somebody wanted to share a plot so I was very lucky. Alicat. Thanks for that info. If I can't get any locally I will send for some mail order. As for finding the time I was wondering about that to but you find the time by not doing some of the other 'waste of time things' (if you know what I mean). Just go for it, I am glad I did. I am doing it mainly on my own. OH has helped a bit (making compost heap etc) and the kids, but in the main I am doing it mostly myself. Look forward to hearing how you get on. MP1 p.s.A bonus is all the friendly like minded people that I have been meeting.

Hi all, I've managed to get some Garlic at last - from my local Notcutts GC. Can't stand the place (not enough gardening stuff in there) but phoned up this morning and they had just had a delivery of garlic bulbs. Popped down there this afternoon after work and picked some up. Hope to plant it some time this week. MP1
