Our apple tree is amazing - not only have we made all this windfall wine but, as the apples falling off were causing as much damage to the plants as planets colliding, we thought we should pick some. Four whole carrier bagsfull later and loads left on the tree, and several jars of chutney, and 7 gallons of wine, can't be bad! These apples are HUGE fully grown, around the size of a grapefruit. And to think earlier on before any fruit was on the tree it was suffering from woolly aphid with fluff everywhere, didn't affect its output really. We've had a lot of obstacles to get over since buying this house but the apple tree definitely isn't one of them. ;D

Do you know what variety it is Debbie and has it caused you to have more than your fair share of wasps?

Don't know what kind it is, Rita, and there's no point in asking the previous owner of the house, 'Don't know' is his standard reply to any house/garden queries! They are huge, green and slighly tinged red in places. No wasps at all, really. Just the woolly aphid earlier on. How about you? By the way I've got just two more demi johns to fill up and then it'll be 9 gallons of the stuff. Then bags more apples to make crumble, freeze, palm off on hubby with his lunch, pies, etc etc. We should all be healthy by the end of it! Shiny coats, see in the dark, never a cold.....l
