Hello Just had 30 Strawberry plants delivered, Malling Opal. They were bareroot and as its too dark out now to do anything I have put them in a box of moist compost for now.
Question is, what do I do with next? I have a strawberry planter almost ready, can I finish it off and just pot them up in that? Will they be OK during the winter or should I pot them up singly and keep them somewhere sheltered?
Thanks Paul

I think they'd be better-off planted in their final positions - and like any bare-root plant will make some root progress while temperatures are still reasonable. You're just in time! Presumably your planter is in a favoured spot anyway, but cover the new plants with some fleece if frosts threaten.

Thanks OM, I've been called away on business so there is no chance of me getting them in before Monday Noon. I've popped them in a box at an angle (almost heeled) and covered roots in damp compost. I hope they will survive.
