Has anyone got a really comprehensive on-line apple catalogue bookmarked?
I've a 'mystery tree' here which has been provisionally ID'd as Cleopatra by a local - but I can find no illustrated reference to it - in fact very little reference at all.
I'm going to send samples to Brogdale (though it's not listed among the apple collection there) and I'm still waiting for a result from the Apple Day at Gressenhall back in October...
OM.

bit of an afterthought...in case anyone's inclined to research: pic 1 apples on the tree earlier in the year pic 2 samples picked this morning - that plate's 30cm/12inches across pic 3 the tree attempting to escape... oh - and a bit of an afterthought afterthought: it's an equally good eater and cooker... OM.

Must say it looks a lovely apple - sorry I can't help with it's ID though Perhaps a trip to your local library is needed

I got round to sending samples to Brogdale - a fairly hefty 20-odd quid with postage - but they only cash the ID cheque if they do identify for you. I've been warned to expect a delay of a month or two...
In the meantime, the local East of England Apple Project were interested enough to ask for grafting material and offer a couple of grafted rootstocks 'for my trouble', so with luck I can perpetuate it, re-trained against the wall. In a very interesting spin-off, I've been offered bud grafts of 'rare' Norfolk varieties if I'll provide the space, care and rootstocks, so there's an order of 50 underway with the intention of establishing them for summer bud grafting. What with that, the Trials and usual gardening, it should be an interesting 2007... OM.
