Tried out a 'Terex' spade for the first time today - wow was I impressed. To summarise, I found I was digging at least twice as fast, with no limiting back pain. Normally, I would dig about 20 sq yds on any single day, this being a physical limit before soreness. However, today I managed 50 in less time, and only had to stop because of limited time. Seems a shame these are no longer made, so they can only be acquired via charity shops etc.
A normal spade is still needed for doing tidy edges etc, but the time and effort saved are well worth it in my opinion.

I'd forgotten all about these - I bought one for my old dad years ago. I wonder who ended up with it... that rascally brother of mine, no doubt...
Spring assisted, slightly terrifying (terex?!!) looking thing DtF?

Yes, the correct title appears to be WOLF TERREX AUTOSPADE, according to sources ...

I did email Wolf to ask if due to the popularity of this spade if they would reconsider reintroducing this as spares were getting difficult to get.....however, i'm afraid that they said they wouldn't be introducing it again - shame really. They also mentioned that their spares supplier had run out 18 months ago. There is one on ebay at the mo if anyone is still looking for one.
