Sorry if this has been asked already. I'd shelved plans to start fruit and veg in my garden as I was encouraging wildlife which seemed to want to strip every food plant bare. However, due to reasons explained in a thread on the general board I really want to have a go next year to encourage my son to eat fruit and veg. Can anyone help with recommending a book/ books I should put on my christmas list that shows how to raise simple, easy grow food plants in harmony with the creepy crawlies ;D Many thanks if you can help.

Hi Jonah, You can't really go very far wrong with Dr. Hessayon's Vegetable & Herb expert. I found this one at Play.com for £5.99 (free delivery). www.play.com/Books/Books/PROD/3-/459415/-/Product.html?searchstring=0903505460&searchsource=0&tduid=bc0a0edc78Otherwise, I can heartily recommend Geoff Hamilton's Successful Organic Gardening. It may be out of print as I have only been able to find it in paperback so far. The ISBN of my hardback copy is 0-86318-200-3. It is far more comprehensive than the Dr Hessayon book, and includes all aspects of organic gardening, not just vegetables.

Just a thought about Geoff Hamilton books - I haven't been for several years but they used to sell the whole range at Barnsdale. I think they do mail order so if you can't find them anywhere else... I second Spruance's recommendations - Geoff's books are really wonderful - he was years ahead of his time, wasn't he?

Thank you both I think I will start with the expert one for now! I haven't bought one of the series since the 80's, so it is long overdue. In fact the children can get it for my xmas stocking ;D
