I'm struggling to decide what seeds to buy this year, and some of you seem really organised and already know what you are getting. If you could only buy ONE packet of seeds, for flowers or vegetables, what seeds would they be?

That was quite easy, bearing in mind I already have too many seeds for the space allotted anyway!

ONE packet of seeds.....I don't understand that concept ;D PML! Neither do I actually GH but I should narrow down my list and thought I'd get ideas from my online buddies! ;D The theory is that if I get 10 ideas here, that might persuade me to discard some of my own unnecessary and frivolous ideas. However I might actually end up lengthening my list!!!

Plocket
I think you'll end up with a longer list and more seeds, it'll be 'mmm that sounds nice/interseting/different/exotic' and before you know it you'll have more seeds than me Thompson and Morgan/Dobies etc etc

They get quite big Plocket - I can send you some seeds for yellow ones and green round and long ones if you want to try them in pots. The yellow ones are very nice. While I'm at it I have some giant Snow Pea seeds too - the pack says they grow into bushes 24" - 36" - they are the ones you eat in the pod like Mange Tout.

Well you might decide to dig up your drive !! No chance!!! We only had it done a few years ago!!! It's a lovely sun-trap now so ideal for some of the more sensitive veggies, and I've even found seeds for container courgettes so save your own seeds of those. So I'm doing courgettes, your Hestia beans and Snow Peas (they'll have to survive in containers too!), some garlic and some sweetcorn, carrots and possibly some potatoes but I was very disappointed with our crop last year.

One...... har har har har...... nah I am going to try Mecanopsis. I got an old package for free so I can always blame the age of the seeds when things go wrong. It has the most intrigueing instructions I ever read on a package of seeds. First freeze for some days than seed in warmth leave for a month and then see to it that it gets very cold again This by heart I will have to read the package again. Dutchy

Dutchy Dutchy - This is quite normal technique called stratification which breaks the dormancy of many seeds. Basically you are trying to make the seed believe they have had a winter, followed by a warm spell. Alternatively, for slower results just leave the seed in a cold frame and wait until Spring.

Thanks for the tip Ziggywigs! I've found a small variety so hopefully they will do fine and perhaps not be quite so aggressive ;D
