Please don't tell me that other varieties are better because these are the ones I can buy in small quantities. However, if you know of somewhere online that sells only 5 tubers I'm open to suggestions!!

Sorry Plocket, I can't answer yet as I only grew Pentland Javelin for the first time last year! (They were nice though but NOT organic) So I don't have anything to compare them with and haven't tried any of the others..... yet!
Can you do the poll again in say........ 5 years? ;D

Sorry Plocket. I only did a few charlottes last year and that was my first experience of spud growing. I won't vote but I'd be interested to see what the outcome is.

Sorry Plocket, I haven't grown any of these varieties. My favourite is Ulster Sceptre, although I have also had good results with Arran Pilot. Have a look at this Mr. Fothergills link, which has some useful information on some of your varieties.

I've never grown any of them either but I've bought a bag of Rocket to try this year. They are chitting in Mother's front porch as I write.

Not grown any of those I am afraid. First Earlies I have grown are Rocket, early, good yield, taste nothing to write home about, Duke of York, fantastic flavour, terrible yield (but it was last year when yields were down all round), Maris Bard, good flavour and size and yield better (same year as DoY). This year, I am growing Arran Pilot and Home Guard.

I don't know anything about growing potatoes but in Poundland today they had bags of 10 Unwins Desiree seed potatoes. Any advise would be very welcome. I also bought some coir blocks called Bloom Peat. Each block makes 8ltrs of compost (2 for 50p). They can be used for seed sowing. Has anyone used or knows anything about them. Janet.

I've voted for rocket...but only because these are the only ones I've grown! They were really easy, grew well in containers and we had a v good yield. I plan to try Lady Christl this year.

I'm being indecisive now! I might have to have a natter with one of the neighbours I vaguely know - they have a lottie and they might have the odd "first early" to spare! Cheeky aren't I??? ;D

Not voted because I've not tried any of them. I am growing for the first time ever Lady Christl, Orla, Swift, Charlotte and Desiree Heard of Picaso Farmersboy but not tried those either.
