I sowed my toms too early but I was desperate to sow something ...they have germinated now and look pretty good but the amazing thing is that the really old seeds (Gardeners Delight and Moneymaker) have come up just as quickly and with as good a germination rate as the San Marzano plum toms which are brand new! Isn't nature WONDERFUL?

Apparently Victorian gardeners would keep melon seed for ten years, they believed plants grown from 'mature' seed would yield more fruit per plant than those from 'immature' seed

Did you see that Kew programme last week with the seeds from the 18th century? Very interesting. Some of them germinated which is amazing. My tomato seeds were about 7 years old....

Morning Supersprout! Well, I've moved my toms to a colder conservatory with lids on the trays and we got a hard frost last night Still they seem to have survived so fingers crossed! This morning I sowed some Meteor peas, sweet peas and Nepeta trancaucasia. I'm being quite strict with myself but I've got TONS more to get going...... ;D PS Digging makes me catch my breath these days.........

Digging is good for the soul... I have too many perennial weeds so I have too.
