In January I built a tomato house and turned over and composted the site. I now find I have Bärlauch (wild garlic?) growing everywhere. We love Bärlauch pesto (especially in Risi Bisi). Does anybody know if I can transplant it? If so, when? ( I have some space under the plum tree) Or needn't I bother as garlic is a good companion of tomato and they won't affect the tomato harvest?

Weedhatch, you won't have to transplant it as it will spread out of its own accord. It can become very invasive and can cause problems if you are not careful and can increase 10 fold in a season. If I was you I would have a google on Allium triquetrum which is one of the wild garlics growing in this country before introducing any to a new site in your plot.

Thanks for that. Reading some of the hits googled, it would be best to remove them now and harvest them in subsequent years at our usual place.

I saw wild garlic growing in Derbyshire in some woodland and it was rampant, grew all over the place  |

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday digging up the Bärlauch. Can't imagine why I hated weeding so much when I was a child. I'm sure contact with the earth is essential to our well-being. I felt centred and content and sensed my blood had found its way. Living on a second floor near the main railway station with a web of power cables wrapped around us and all that other electro-smog around must alter the body's magnetic field, getting in the earth seemed to realign the iron in my body with Earth. I am so excited I can't sit still. I couldn't face Bärlauch pesto though.
