I bought a tray of well grown broad beans & one of peas, sorry can't remember the names & they are in the greenhouse & it is thawing in a wet & very muddy way. They were for sale at Hodsock when we went to see the snowdrops. Now I am not sure how to care for them, shall I plant them out, the veg beds are ready but the weather is rotten, or shall I keep them growing on in the cold greenhouse?

Hi Gertrude, must have missed this thread.
I'd keep them in the cold greenhouse for a while longer. The soil outside is still pretty cold for transplanting.

I'm sure I have seen a post about Yard Long beans somewhere, are they easy to grow? I was tempted by the T &M catalogue.

I'd keep them snug undercover for a good few weeks yet (hark at me! one year growing peas and beans and I think I'm an expert!) I don't grow broad beans because we don't eat them (yuk) but my peas have only just gone into long coir pots...and I shan't be sowing my green beans until April.

Thanks CPB & Chuckles. I didn't realise when I ordered them that they like a soil temp of 20c so I won't be starting any off soon. They are Italian so hopefully they will like the hot dry conditions on my lottie

Broad beans - My first batch were transplanted (as I felt sorry the slugs had nowt to eat) in Christmas week. The 2nd batch were sown in the greenhouse 3 weeks ago. I'm a first timer for these.
Peas - Depends what type they are as to their hardiness. If they were seeds then round/wrinkly gives the clue. I sow monthly and will be eating greenhouse raised Meteor in a couple of weeks.
Climbing Bean Yard Long - I only grew 3 plants last year. One was left to grow them long (about 18''), but only produced about 6 beans. The other two I harvested at 6 inches length and like most immature veg they were very very sweet and got a repeat crop. NOT the highest yielding bean crop, but recommended as a trial. I'll be sowing sowing around Easter.
