I bought myself one of these ( more because it was in a fancy pot ) and although it looks lovely it is going to be too tall for the pot. Can I re-pot it or should I leave it a while it as it looked very freshly potted up when I bought it - I don't want to put it in shock. LLx

Hi Lottie!
It all depends on the size of the present pot I suppose. This has the potential to be a sizeable plant – with a height of 90cm and spread of 60cm. In autumn cut back and cover the roots of plants growing in cold areas or bring container-grown specimens indoors. The freshy picked leaves can be added to salads or summer drinks.

Hi David - The pot is about 6" across and deep - does it grow quickly?

It grows a bit like mint as far as I remember, takes over quite quickly.

Thanks Paul and David - I think I will take the chance and re pot - I need to get more compost though - why is there never enough compost? The label says Melissa David and it has a citrus smell so I think it is. LLx

Lemon Balm can be a bit of a thug Lottie, I foolishly put some in a large pot with a Clematis. Big huge mistake, it took over the surface of the pot very quickly and I could not pull it out. It's one of those plants that have roots that seem to weld themselves into the compo. In the end it got a few good squirts of . Even when dead it took some getting out.

It's a lovely plant but it IS a thug! You have to be stern with it or it's a monster...and make sure you cut the seed heads off really efficiently or you'll find it popping up everywhere.

I reckon that I will have to pot it on it's own - it will just make a gap in my tub - could of course buy a little something to put in it's place.......
Any ideas?
