Ok i've got the ground ready for my Three sisters...i'm planning on growing Corn, Squash and Beans.
Question is butternut squash ok and what sort of beans do i grow? Will runner beans do or some other type of bean.

Any climbing bean, so runners are in principle fine. I have to say that here in the relative mild south I was not impressed when I tried two of the sisters (corn and beans) in that the beans developed a LOT quicker than the corn (itself an early type sown 2nd week of March)......and ended up quite frankly a right mess

Thanks CC....i wondered if that would be the case with beans growing quicker than the SC. Do you think dwarf beans would be ok then?

Put me on the spot as to something I've never achieved why don't you ;D I'd be tempted to grow something that gets to about 4 foot rather than 6 foot/2metres+. When it comes to beans I'll confess either want them to grow to 24''/60cm or as high as they can - I don't grow intermediate height stuff. So at best guess one of the peas might suffice, one of the later "Onward" types perhaps for later cropping? Or if you are keen how about about a petit pois (I'm growing Waverex), which would mean if it goes a bit pear (or even pea ;D) shaped you would get a decent harvest nonetheless and if they were successful they would go on to form succulent "normal" peas.....Well so I am led to believe But what do I know....my two sisters was not the greatest success! Good luck and please report back on what you decide to do and the results.

Thanks for that CC.....i'll certainly give it some thought on what's best.
Maybe a better way would be to section the bed into SC, Squashes and beans...i'm sure that the roots will seek each other out, at least with the beans from what i've seen of their roots.
