As a very new gardener, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a first time veggie grower. I don't really have room in my garden for a plot, so will have to grow things in tubs. I have already got strawberry seedlings in my mini greenhouse, and have just this morning planted a few cucumber seeds (thanks cheery!) Is there anything foolproof?

Hi RM
Tomatoes - really easy especially the dwarf and tumbling sorts - no pinching out.
That is as far as I can help - I am doing everything for the first time as well.
This year for the first time for me - potatoes, beans and chillies, - not to mention the sweetpeas.
All for the trials - learning by doing RM - so join in with a couple of toms and chillies if you like - there is still time and at least I won't feel so alone in my ignorance.

What about a cut-and-come-again type lettuce and a few spring onions to go with the tomatoes RF suggested!! Runner Beans in a tub with a wigwam of canes to grow up, also you can get some varieties of climbing French Bean - they look quite pretty too. Courgettes are simple to grow (and you could put a plant into a grow bag) Carrots and Beetroot would probably be OK too, but they'd probably like a fairly deep tub, unless you try and grow the 'baby' varieties. Hope that helps ;D

You could grow Gartenperle Tomatoes in a hanging basket RM, they are in the GWD trials. Go on have a go, I have and it's a first for me and at least your OH can't complain about the compo if it's for eatable plants ;D seeds.thompson-morgan.com/uk/en/product/773/1

Radishes are fairly foolproof to grow and you can be eating them within a few weeks of sowing the seed.
'French Breakfast' is a very good variety.

The real question for you is "what do YOU want to grow"? Then ask if it is difficult. For those on a budget one place you will find lots of basic veggie and flower seeds (and of course his famous spuds also sold in small quantities) is www.alanromans.com/ All seeds are 50p and this includes the Gartenpearle Chuckles mentioned with 25% more seeds too than Thomson & Morgan Postage at 80p is a heck of lot cheaper than the £1.50 T&M wish to extort. Postage free when you get 10 packets or more..... which is quite easy when you are addicted. The range does change and sometimes things are out of stock. You DON'T get any instructions - Just a seed packet.....but instructions is what this site is for

OMG You really should not have given me a link to that site. I have enough trouble resisting buying seeds at about £2 a pack. Now you've shown me somewhere that sells them for 50p!!
Damn youuuu!!! <waves fist while running to find debit card>
