I bought some seeds from a captain cabbage recommended site (thanks, cap'n! ) and am planning on growing them in containers. Can anyone tell me what size they should be? Also, do I plant the seeds directly into the soil, or should I start them in a seed tray? Oh, and how deep do they like to be planted? And do I need to feed them? All instructions gratefully recieved!! ;D

They don’t have deep roots, so any container really. I sometimes use a green plastic plant trough which is about 4’’/10cm deep.
Sow them directly onto the soil and lightly cover with soil.
No need to feed, actually positively do not feed! *
Don’t worry if you sow them too thickly as if they get too congested you can pull a few out as babies. But don’t sow all at once, because you’ll probably want to munch them throughout the Summer and so if you can sow a few every month.
* There’s a great Medwyn Williams quote on feeding onions. I’ll see if I can find it.

Thanks CC! That sounds reasonably simple. I'll let you know how I get on
