As I don't have a water supply on my plot, mulching is going to be the best option to conserve water. Has anyone tried shredded paper with manure on top ? I also have a stack of saved cardboard. Any other ideas of cheap or free mulch ?

Thanks TeeGee Looks like I'm going to be shifting lots of manure for a while. I think I will also be asking my neighbours for all their grass clippings too

Mmmm grass clippings sound good, they could help on the dry side of my garden. The left hand side of my gardenis 4-5ft higher than the neighbours and it's a sheer drop all the way up and is very very dry.
