I'm trying to come up with some suitable apple trees for my school garden project and would really appreciate some ideas. The site is fairly open, the soil is terrible (at the moment) after years of childrens feet but generally sandy and dry and there is space for maybe 2 or 3 trees. I also want to include a Sweet Cherry tree. I have been given a Pear and there is a wild apple very close to the chosen site. Also what Spring blossom trees can people recommend? Thanks Above are 2 views of the site - the shrubs are all being removed but the silver birch saplings and small beech tree are staying.

Hello 4pygmies, An Amelanchier would be a good tree to have - not too big, beautiful blossom followed by Berries that the birds love and lovely Autumn colour.
Fiesta is a delicious Apple
Stella is a good self-fertile Cherry

Hi 4P,
I can DEFINATELY recommend the apple called Scrumptious! It certainly lives up to it's name and it's self fertile ;D

I agree with Susie it's well.....Scrumptious and will appeal to the kiddies as it's nice and sweet, red and crunchy.
