Been looking at mine through the magnifing glass as I cant see things close up and there are 2 red shoots starting to come from it. Ex SIL came up the other day and asked what it was so I told her, she has tried to grow them for a couple of years. She thought you grew them like normal seed spuds, she had been planting the whole spud into the ground. She didnt know that they grew from slips, I showed her the T&M book with the slips in and the price of them i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/shocked.gif she is going to have a go growing her own but seeing as its a bit later than ours she is going to put them in a propagator to get them going a bit quicker.

Hm I think I'll opt for the "buy them at the GC when they are available" possibility. I tried to safe some tubers but ended up with the Dahlia problem aka frost killing them.

It was due to your prodding Chuckles that I bothered to plant at all this year! Ma Spud is bursting forth again, and already three of her off-spring have got their own place - one is nearly too tall for its own good already! At this rate I could be looking for good homes for babies! x Tig

Great to see how yours are doing Tig, well done. How are yours going PJ? Just read your message Carolann. My mummy sweet potato has a few white roots at the base but nothing visible from above the compost, except some rogue green leaves. I think I must have dropped some seeds from another planting job. I will leave them where they are and wait and see what it might be. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/shocked.gif PJ

They do grow from below the compost as well as shooting above it PJ - and those 'slips' will be well rooted for removing and putting in their own pots as soon as they are a decent size - I hope that is what your 'rogue green leaves' are x Tig

Well I am weeks/months behind Tig. This is my sweet potato with a few rogue leaves in the pot which I think are from flower seeds I dropped. I have one little slip on top which looks like a butterfly!
