Christmas isn't that far away. What do you think about a christmas recipe thread. I bet we all have a favourite recipe we would like to share. Janet.

Sorry to mention the C word. I was thinking of preparing things that could be frozen or needed time to mature like chutneys, pickles & perhaps xmas cakes. I do hope I haven't offended to many people. Janet.

Parma Ham and Parmesan pinwheels (from Good Food magazine a couple of years ago -delicious with drinks etc.)
1 pkt Puff pastry
1 pkt Parma Ham
2 - 3 ozs finely grated Parmesan cheese
Roll out the pastry to a large rectangle (14" x 12")
Lay the slices of Parma Ham on top and sprinkle on the Parmesan
Roll up tightly into a long sausage shape - dampen the edge with water to seal
Chill in fridge for a couple of hours - makes it easier to cut
Using a sharp knife cut into slices about 1/4 " thick
Put onto baking tray Gas no.6 and bake for 10 - 15 mins on middle shelf
Scrummy!!
Mini cheese and onion open tartlets are also good!

I'm gonna take the bull by the horns this year and have goose for xmas dinner.....probably with a nice joint of beef as back up.
Had duck last year and it was awesome.
Isabella....can we have the recipes for the mini tartlets too plz.
I made some mini quiches a few weeks ago. I made some shortcrust pastry and cut the pastry into circles that fit into a muffin tin. I then added a tiny bit of onion, pepper, bacon, cheese and then added the egg mix. Bake for 15 odd mins or until golden and they were awesome

Get some streaky bacon and cut it into long, 1" wide strips.
Get one or two dried apricots and roll them in the bacon.
Secure with a cocktail stick and bake for 10-15 mins

Mini Cheese and Onion tartlets
1pkt Puff pastry
1 large spanish Onion
1 medium to large potato
3-4 ozs mature Cheddar cheese ( or Gruyere)
Peel the potato , cut into chunks and boil until just cooked- then cut into very small pieces
Peel and chop the onion finely and sweat in a very small amount of butter until cooked but not brown
Grate the cheese
Roll the pastry out quite thinly and cut out circles using a cutter approx.21/2 " diam.
Pinch the edge of the pastry so that it makes a little container
Put a little bit of potato and onion in the pastry thingies (technical term!) and sprinkle the cheese on top
Bake for about 10 - 12 mins Gas no.6 middle shelf
I sometimes make larger versions for picnics or Lunch
The bacon and apricots sound good!!
