On the topic of tripe, gardenhammerette, I was in Turkey this summer. A national dish there is Ishkembe Corbasi - tripe soup. I have to be honest, it was ok, until we got to the bits at the bottom of the bowl ... Derekthefox...bits in the bottom of the bowl...yuck yuck yuck!!! You've put me right off my G&T now And I got the quote in a box ;D

I haven't had tripe for donkey's years. I have to say I quite liked it when I was younger - as long as it had plenty of salt pepper and vinegar on it. Didn't like it cooked.
Can't be doing with kidneys - smell of pee.
Otherwise there isn't much that I don't eat. Love any vegetables (couldn't stand asparagus once upon a time, but love it now). We don't eat a lot of meat. Mrs Bill isn't keen on pork. Love sea food. Love cheese but try not to eat too much of it (got to think about the figure don't you know).

Can I just ask - all the things that people don't like, have you actually tried them, or is it you just don't want to try them? My dad 'hated' garlic but loved really strong Polish (garlic) sausage

I really have had everything I dislike at least once, and there were many other things I tried that I didnt actively dislike but really wouldnt be bothered if I never had them again, like Queens for instance.

Tee hee! That's right. Not sure I would enjoy it now, and I doubt if Mrs Bill would allow it in the house! My mother used to eat cow's udder. Don't think you can get it these days. Probably gone the same way as pigs trotters and cow heel

Well I have lots of food fads ('a fussy madam' is what my Mummy used to call me) Although I won't bite into a tomato I eat pizza and sauces with tomato in them like bolognase...there are several things I REALLY don't like and wouldn't eat.
offal (will eat liver at a push if it's well cooked) shellfish (also allergic) cooked peas butterbeans and broad beans lamb (& any fatty meat is a no no) GARLIC pickles marmite (OH loves it) salmon
there are probably other things but I'm feeling a little queesy.....

I used to intensely dislike Broad Beans but have developed a taste for them. Intend to grow a few as I am sure they will taste even better fresh from the garden. Casseroles and such wouldn't be the same without garlic

I use garlic in moderation in curries, pasta sauces etc (with peg on nose)..I just hate the smell of garlic...and the aftertaste makes me feel yukky too...

Hello Dee,
I haven't tried
tripe veal oysters squid venison
The mere thought of eating any of the above makes me feel a bit sick!
I have tried everything else on my list and just don't like the taste!
Best Wishes Pam

Derekthefox...bits in the bottom of the bowl...yuck yuck yuck!!! You've put me right off my G&T now And I got the quote in a box ;D Well as posted elsewhere in this thread, I feel I need to experience a dish in order to determine if I dislike it ... Apologies if my recollections made your G&T less enjoyable ...

I haven't tried tripe veal oysters squid venison Tripe - see above I don't eat veal because of the way it is produced. I have eaten it in the past and seem to remember it is rather bland. Oysters- delish as long as properly prepared Squid - a bit tasteless and rubbery Venison - very strong flavour - you don't want too much of it

I agree with you Derek, I have tried my 'dislike' list, can't say I dislike them until I've tried them
The exception to the above is Durian, the smell of it had be reaching - so there was no way I could get it anywhere near my mouth - I did want to try it though as it's supposed to be delish.

Spruance - now understand where I went wrong, as you are quite correct in saying I did only want the second paragraph of the quote. Thanks for clearing that up, probably best if I try not to be so clever in the future and stick to easy things!! ;D Skarloey - I may be older than you ;D, but Terry Wogan....old gits.... ,I'm shocked !!! Don't really bother with radio unless it's on in the car when the OH collects me from work - usually five live for the footie (as if you couldn't have guessed that!!!) Forgot to say, I hate Jellied Eels and Bananas (had an anaphylatic reaction to them so best I don't eat them ;D), and I don't like peppers that have the skins on (so much nicer without - no feeling of indigestion!!). Saw Tripe in a butchers shop window when we first moved up here,it looked vile but I had absolutely no idea what it was, so I went in and asked...apparently the colour drained from my face when the butcher told me and then asked if I wanted to try some ;D Most of the time it's not that I don't like something, it's that I just don't like how it's been cooked..... LOVE Marmite Yes, I have tried Jellied Eels, Bananas and peppers with the skin still on, I've also tried Sweede and Sprouts. So I can safely say I don't like them. The tripe on the other hand I didn't try and I think hell would have to freeze over before I did ;D

I might add that although I like chocolate I wouldn't touch 'Death by Chocolate' for love nor money. A friend of mine went to one of these Toby Inns and ordered Death by Chocolate and a giant bar of chocolate fell out of the ceiling and killed him outright. So be warned all of you!

I like most food BUT:
Fat Aspic Runny eggs <shudder> Coddle <sorry, there's no way even the best cook can make this into anything but unidentifiable bits floating in soup> Black pudding <let's face it, it's basically blood clots>
AND
all pre-prepared meals designed for microwaves. They're all horrible, just in varying degrees <feelingslightlysicknowsmiley> ... cheers ...

Won't eat veal - don't agree with production methods. Couldn't bring myself to try - brains or tripe Have tried but can't stand: Broad beans Sprouts Parsnips Trout Salmon Gammon Salami Smoked fish Prefer raw carrots and swede to cooked. Love prawns, lobster, crab, etc. Will try most things once (and twice if I like it but that's another story)

Here's one I have eaten several times - the humble sea cucumber or beches-de-mer in France - not any more..... "Known to scientists as holothurians, they resemble bloated brown sausages studded with warts. When alarmed by predators, they react first by firing sticky threads, and then by vomiting their internal organs, which later regrow. As if that wasn’t enough, they breathe through their anuses." Sounds like one or two holothurians I met before meeting Mrs C The full article for those that need to be convinced is at.... www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,172-2420159,00.html

I don't really eat veg much apart from tatties, sweetcorn, peppers and onions, but if I had to eat some veg and my life depended on it then I would.
I've had squid/calimari rings which I mistook for onion rings and they weren't that bad but not a favourite.
Love marmite. Won't eat anything like kidneys/tripe/brains etc because I just couldn't bring myself to. Can't remember which film it was (Indiana Jones ones I think) where they were eating monkey brains. Made me sick.
I don't dislike bananas but the texture of them once I've chewed them a little makes me gag-I don't like soggy food! Oysters look like snot so I'm never gonna try them.
I always used to say that I didn't like something when I hadn't even tried it. I never liked pizza or curry when I was a kid but I love them now.
Boyf reckons I'm a fussy eater but when it comes to it, I only really don't eat veg and I would eat it if it was IN something such as a hotpot/mash etc. He doesn't eat garlic, pepperoni or peppers etc so who's the fussy one?!
