Hi Isabella I've got one too, been trying out a milk loaf recipe today. I usually make granary loaves with lots of added seeds, OH isn't keen but I have it toasted every morning with bovril. Have you seen this site www.bread-machines-and-recipes.com/I wouldn't be without mine either

I have one but the last time I used it I could have built your extention with the result Dr Bill! where did I go wrong and it was a packet mix!
Also the recipe book that came with it makes everything seem very sweet.
Can anyone help me out - I'd rather it didn't sit on the worktop doing nothing.

Could you post a recipe from the recipe book for a standard white loaf, please? Finally, which dried yeast do you use in your machine?

Rita -- mine's a morphy Richards I think. I used dried yeast - the tiny pellet type. Although occasionally my local Morrisons has fresh yeast but never when I want to use it! i'll try and remember to post a recipe later as I'll have to find one at home as I at work ATM

I would recommend you use THIS yeast, you can't use fresh yeast in a bread maker or dried yeast which needs reconstituting in water.

I used to us my breadmaker a lot but it's not working properly now, it kneads but does not bake so I have to take the dough out and bake in a tin in the oven. Homemade bread is so much nicer

Speaking as a glutton...I wouldn't DREAM of getting a bread maker...I just can't afford to get any fatter...as many of you know, I have in fact achieved critical mass and could go off any day...

I used to have a breadmaker but only used it a handful of times so I passed it on to my daughter who then passed it on to her friend, Lord knows who has it now ;D I did like the bread when I made it only I would sit and eat the whole loaf while it was still warm, so it HAD to go ;D ;D

Mrs C's has got and kneads one of these......works 100 hours a week, is quite unreliable, but you can chuck all sorts into it and it never complains, is quite good with the kids, likes to rise to it and says d'oh a lot......!
Bugger! I thought you said bread winner ;D

I have one, but I haven't used it much recently. I did used to use it alot, and experimented using different flours etc. The only thing I found was that the bread wouldn't always turn out quite right if a followed the recipe to the letter.
I also used to find that the granary loaves would turn out dry unless I used a friend's suggestion which was to put an effervescent vitamin c tablet in it!

I bought one about three years ago, and have hardly ever bought a loaf, though I treat myself to an M&S Walnut loaf now and again. Trouble is, they are too easy to scoff, and too easy to make

I would love to have a breadmaker but I would resent the marauding blokes eating my bread without appreciating all the work involved. So I don't even think about buying one as yet.
WeeT there is nothing like M&S walnut bread, that lasts about 3 seconds though.
