Anyone got any gems to share with us ?....i suppose the main things will be sauces and marinades but if anyone's got any unusual things they put on the barbie or any marinade recipes, let's have em.
Here's a few easy ones which i do. For chicken drumsticks, just brush on orange marmalade with a pastry brush.....delicious
For a nice, quick marinade, equal parts soy sauce, runny honey and white wine vinegar....delicious sweet and sour !!!
BBQ sauce....1 part soy sauce, 1 part golden syrup, 1 part soft brown sugar and 2 parts tomato ketchup.

This is my own red wine concoction for marinading beef steaks - the meat is best allowed to marinade overnight before your barbe:
Simply mix together 50% each of red wine and olive oil, add a finely chopped medium sized onion (garlic if preferred), half a tsp of English mustard and two or three Bay leaves.
Based the steaks (Sirloin preferably) frequently with the mixture whilst cooking.

For a really simple but interesting starter try bacon wrapped around bananas - its sort of sweet and sour and although it sounds odd it's delicious. Cut a banana into two inch lengths, and wrap half a strip of streaky (not back) bacon around, then secure with a cocktail stick. Yes the cocktail stick will burn but by then the bacon's stuck to itself and won't come undone so easily - just warn guests that there is still a bit of wood inside And I use unsmoked bacon coz I don't like smoked, but either will do.

I will certainly try that one.....i usually do dried apricots wrapped in bacon. I suppose most fruits will do....pineapple, peach, oranges etc and of course, prunes.

for a dessert (pudding!) my wife and her friends slit the skin on a banana, insert chunks of chocolate, wrap in foil then put on the barbie. They also do some substituting the chocolate for brown sugar and ground ginger. Never tried them myself as I'm allergic to bananas

A really naughty alcoholic banana bbq bonza rippa <can'tspellaussiestylesmilie> hot pud ;D Take one banana (or more) with skin intact. Obtain a syringe with a fine needle (easy if you know somebody in the NHS ). Fill the syringe with your favourite spirit, liquer and inject into the banana at various points. Wrap in foil and bung on the barbeque. Serve with cream, hot choccy sauce or a drizzle of advocaat S x

I do a mixture of both those recipes: slit a banana, shove in chunks of dark chocolate, then put a slug of brandy or rum over it, wrap in foil and bbq until the banana and chocolate are squishy!
