Did anyone make a note of the ingredients (I think it was sugar, syrup and bicarb of soda) and quantities of Nigella Lawson's Hokey Pokey/Honeycomb last night? I've completely forgotten

No I didn't Plocket but I did have a fantastic half hour of anger therapy....... I just can't help it...... what is wrong with the woman? That inane grinning at each ingredient as it goes into the bowl I just sat and swore at the telly for the whole show!!!! OH was crying with laughter!!!!

I just did a google for you......
150g butter 1/2 Cup sugar 1 tablespoon golden syrup 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 tablespoon milk 1 3/4 Cups flour
Place butter, sugar and golden syrup in a saucepan large enough to mix all the ingredients. Heat, stiring constantly until butter melts and mixture is close to boiling. Allow to cool slightly. Dissolve baking soda in milk and add to cooled mixture with sifted flour. Mix well. Roll into balls and place on greased oven tray . Flatten with fork. Bake at 180C for 15 min or until golden. Makes 24 or thereabouts! Just promise me you wont smile at the baking soda!!!! Oooh that reminds me.... we went rocket launching at the weekend with a plastic rocket, baking soda and vinegar. Amazingly, the rocket averaged 40 feet!!!! Very funny, especially when OH gave it an extra long shake and it exploded in his hands!!!! ;D

She infuriates me too - OH and I spend the whole programme bitching about her head nodding and flirting with the camera. Her recipies seem tasty though.
Thanks too for the recipe but that wasn't hers. I think hers just had sugar, golden syrup and baking soda. And then she had the GALL to eat the whole dammed lot and give her hostess an empty box, which lets face it looked lovely.
The rockets sound BRILLIANT! Will you start a new thread to explain how to do it properly? It's something that we might have a go at sometime soon - in M&Ds big garden ;D

Oooh Skarloey, I'm so glad you said that! I just cannot watch the woman - she makes me cringe......and makes me swear too! I just cannot don't care about her food, her lifestyle or her chest - which she thrusts at the telly constantly. It is soooooooo aggravating!

Can you remind me how to make it please P, I didn't write down that bit Was it - heat syrup and sugar until sugar has melted, take off the heat then add the bicarb? Or did the sugar and syrup have to boil?

She gently heated the sugar and syrup without stirring (stir first) then brought it to the boil. She didn't say how long she boiled it for and I think she added the bi-carb straight away, into the bubbling mixture. It looked inredibly quick and easy

Well this was the result - most of it eaten ;D I let the sugar and syrup melt and boil for a minute or two, then took it off the heat to whisk in the bicarb, but the mixture continued to get browner and browner. It ended up much darker than I expected and it didn't foam up as much as I thought it would. It felt quite sticky too, but we all liked it anyway. ;D

I meant to say P that I noticed that Nigella used golden syrup from a bottle not from a tin, I wonder if that could make any difference.

I've just done a bit more research and discovered alternative recipies for Hokey Pokey. I'm wondering whether Nigellas quantity of bi-carb was enough, because these are other quantities I've found:
4 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons syrup 1 teaspoon baking soda (is that the same as bi-carb?)
And those instructions said to remove from the heat when the sugar and syrup are bubbling, and add the soda straight away, rather than bubbling the mixture for a while.
Perhaps we need to experiment a bit?
