No....... I don't mean recipes that contain kids!! I mean Good Old 'Auntie GH' has 'offered' to help her friends sons - Joe aged 9 (my allotment pal) and his brother Thomas aged 11 cook a 3 course meal as a surprise for thier Mums 40th birthday.......it's slightly backfired as it was going to be a meal for the PARENTS only.......and now it's a meal for 7 2 kids, 3 Courses, for 7 people,.......how much Gin will I need to recover ;D And then Joe asked 'can we make fancy chocolates for the adults to have with coffee', I told him that adults like Brandy with their coffee ;D HELP......

Pam The boys came round to discuss the menu......... ;D Surprisingly they came up with Vegetable Soup (because they can get stuff from the allotment ;D) and Roast Chicken was mentioned because the eldest has a recipe in his binder (something from school I think) for a Chicken roasted with Bacon and Thyme......he tells me 'bacon keeps it moist' and then added 'but you probably know that' ;D...... I steered them slightly away from roasting a whole chicken onto chicken breast wrapped in the bacon (and this was before I'd read your message....great minds think alike and all that )...... I told them they would look very smart on the plate, (more like a restaurant ;D) and there would be no arguments over who was having which piece of chicken (secretly I was thinking it would be easier ). I also told them we could cook it with some Fennel from the allotment, they had no idea what Fennel was.....so I described it as ' a vegetable that tastes like Black Jacks'......both of them are soooo keen to try it I think we have decided that Chocolate Mousse is for dessert I have been surprised at how many ideas they have come up with, and without any prompting!! Joe says he's going to write out the menu and put flowers on the table - 'cos that's what they have in restaurants'. Keep your fingers crossed for me on Saturday and I shall try and remember to take some photos of the new Gordon and Jamie in training!!

Wow what a lovely idea! I'm sure you'll have a great time, and the kids will be brilliant because they WANT to do it. I can't wait to hear how it goes, and how mum reacts!

More plans are afoot........ ;D Yesterday I 'borrowed' a couple of chefs aprons and hats from the Head Chef at work.....Maybe I should have got plasters And Today I have bought 40th birthday confetti and balloons (kids will have to deal with them, I can't got near the bloody things!), the kids want to decorate the dining room ;D I also bought a LARGE bottle of Gin

I survived ;D Nothing ruined, no accidents ;D Kids learnt a few new 'Gordon Ramsey' words (When 'Auntie GH' managed to burn her thumb ) Their Mum loved the meal, she had tears in her eyes when she came home to find a decorated dining room (balloons/sparkly stuff and candles) and the boys walking down the street with a pot of homemade soup, chef's hats on ready to serve!!! And was even more surprised when courses 2 and 3 arrived ;D The kids loved the Chicken wrapped in Bacon Pam, and are wondering if they can do it with Turkey for Christmas AND they ate all the vegetables Time for me to recover with another VERY LARGE GIN ;D
