With only 4 weeks tommorow until the big fella makes his appearance, thought it might be nice to get a "what's for xmas dinner" thread.
As there's only 4 of us (me, wife, daughter and student), we'll probably have beef and/or lamb.
The rest will be like a traditional roast....roast spuds, yorkshires, stuffing, broccoli, cauli, green beans, mashed sweede, sprouts and parsnips.
So...what ya havin'

Turkey, of course and Pork or our own Lamb, there will be 6 of us this year. I will go out at lunch time and pick the sprouts then start on the dinner for them all. We don't have Christmas Pud but I make a mean boozy Trifle and of course the Black Forrest with lots of fresh cream and home made Rum mince pasties then Fresh coffee and cheese to finish. I love cooking on Christmas Day don't know why? ;D

Blimey, haven't even thought about it yet!!!! Me neither, because there is not much to think about! Cauliflower and Stilton Soup Prawn Cocktail (passe I know, but my Dad loves it) Turkey with all the trimmimgs Christmas Pud, plus another pudding, like Apple Crumble. Mince Pies New Year a bit different this year, as My Ex and his wife will be joining us, and she is vegetarian. So rather than a set meal, I think I'll have a sit-round -the -table-help-yourself type of thing. I always find this more work, but she won't feel left out. Ex is here at Christmas too, but he will eat everything I put down to him. In fact, he'll take the opportunity to pig-out, as he watches his diet if his wife is there. It's heartening to know that some of you have a small number round the table. I always imagine that Christmas in other people's houses is a throng, and am always a little envious. We have a history of 'only children' so there aren't many of us.

We've got a turkey ordered from Shugborough (it's a posh bird ;D ) (and a ham for Christmas Eve). We'll be doing chipolatas, bacon rolls, gravy with port in it, chestnut and "green" stuffing. Roasted potatoes, roasted parsnips and sprouts.

Anyone ever had goose ?....always said that one day i'll try it for crimbo.
I know an old gamekeeper who (illegally) used to keep a swan in a pen and feed it on corn and have it for christmas dinner.....he said it was the best christmas dinner ever.
I think we'll be having lamb and i'll also do a gammon joint.

We had goose last year and it was GORGEOUS! Not a lot of meat on a bird - the one goose fed the four of us with a tiny bit left over. And they are quite expensive, especially when you realise how little you get. But if we were better off financially we'd definately do goose again.
You have to follow what the cookbooks say about all the fat though and not letting it burn.

It isn't a lot and it does work out to be very expensive IMHO. However, the amount of fat you get from it brings the price down considerably when you consider how much goose fat costs. It did roast spuds/vegs for many months after and they tasted fantastic. Better than the goose TBH!
