Has anyone got any recipes for 'indian' type appetiser dips to go with poppadums? Tig

Yoghurt with grated then squished (to get the liquid out) cucumber is nice. Haven't you got a jar of chutney stashed away somewhere Tig? Or finely chopped onion with some corriander and tomato chopped in - just like you get from the Curry House ;D

Thanks Plocket - I probably have got a jar of chutney at the back of the cupboard (also probably out of date!)
I fancy the cucumber one, and the onion, corriander and tomato maybe with a little bit of white wine vinegar?

You don't actually need any vinegar - it's lovely just as it is, fresh and crunchy (the onion one I mean!). All three work really well together, but are good on their own if you don't have all the ingredients. Sweet chutney is best, but if you haven't got sweet then it's not a problem.
Another good "cheat" is sweet chilli dipping sauce if you have any. We always keep some in the fridge and although it's traditionally Chinese (I think!) it works well coz of the sweet and sour thing going on.

The yoghurt and cucumber thing is greek and called Tzatziki if you wanted to look it up. It's wonderfully cooling and great for using excess cucumbers!!

If you are making it Greek-style you want to put chopped mint leaves in, a slug of olive oil and lots of black pepper too

funny that, just posted a recipe for tsatziki, then noticed this thread ... Stewed rhubarb with onion, curry spices and sugar makes a good impersonation of mango chutney ...

My daughter suggested I should try and find a recipe for Raita. I found this site which has quite a good assortment of suitable dips and chutneys - just in case anyone else fancies having a go at making some www.khanapakana.com/chutney-recipes/index.html
