Just thought I would ask how your pond plants fair in the cold weather? This is my first " pond" winter and things have taken a hammering with the hard frosts we have had. I wonder how many plants will come through it? Most plants are OK, but your Cyperus Papyrus may suffer, I lost mine last winter, I didn't know it should be brought in as it is not frost hardy! Don't know much about the Bletilla striata, but I think it is the same, not fully hardy. Just checked on it and found this site, where do you have it? Keith

That Frogbit is really nice Rita. I've never seen that for sale I cannot get Waterlilies to establish in my little pond and I'm giving up on them now - tooo expensive!!! The only thing that's doing well (apart from Houtynia!) is the yellow Flag Irises . They're good cos they throw a stripey shade.

Sorry not to have replied sooner I think your right about the Cyperus papyrus Keith,it's looking very sorry for itself,it is in the deepest part of the pond and the bletilla striata are in pots around the edge. I can pick them out but the Cyperus will just have to take his chance. The Frogbite still looks OK, it didn't do much but it is still early days,is it a slow starter Rita?

I've tried various waterlilies, but haven't had any success apart from two white ones which have got going now. beautiful pink ones, gone Mine is a wildlife pond, so the plants are aimed at that, rather than the aesthetic. I have Caltha palustris white one and the double one Carex elata 'Aurea' Carex pendula Lysimachia nummularia Myosotis scorpioides 'Mermaid' Ranunculus lingua Veronica beccabunga Primula florindae Menyanthes trifoliata Elodea crispa Geum rivale Lythrum salicicaria Various Irises, names long forgotten. Rodgersia, not sure which That little frogbit looks lovely, I see it listed as a wild flower.

My God that is a rare one ;D
I have a mini one that has the funny habit of floating its roots up in winter but grows away happily in summer. Despite that should I do something about it?

I trimmed back all my plants a few weeks ago, with the result that when I threw them back in the water, all the roots stayed on the surface. But I don't think it will matter, they will probably sink down when top ;)growth starts again.

Creeping Jenny is very fast growing. We used to have it on the patio at our old house and if not kept in check it would have easiliy covered the entire area.

I still have it in my border despite all efforts to make it go to the moon. But maybe your soil is not to its liking? I am on nice wettish clay with a bit of gentle composty topsoil ( 1 inch after 13 years )
