Spruance, the Iris we were talking about seems to be the Yellow Flag (Iris Pseudacorus) (guess who's got a new book ;D) This Iris would be suitable on the shelf of my pond, will provide cover for any wee beasties and a bit of colour. It prefers 2-8" water and sun/half shade. Flowers May-June.

That must be why it likes dipping its tootsies near my bird bath then CB.
Not ideal conditions I know, but it's never short of water just there, especially in the summer.

That Iris is indeed by far too invasive and its roots are tougher than old boots. You might consider using this one. It has the same effect for the wildlife, some of them sit happily in wet mud, and is not half as invasive.

Don't you keep the labels, Rita? I do in a bag I keep in the shed. Keith

Two of my Iris's which I bought from Bromfield Aquatics - unfortunately I can't tell you which variety they are, and I can't check as Bromfield's site is still closed for the winter. Rita - have you ever been to Seagate Irises, Long Sutton near Kings Lynne? I spotted it while returning from a trip 'up North' last summer and thought I'd revisit a month back to stock up... was surprised to find it closed. I'd never encountered a 'seasonal' GC before. I would certainly go back if encouraged - do you know them? OM.

Keith Yes Keith when I remember - I will have a look in the shed to check if I did keep the labels for the Iris's - but don't hold your breath. ;D OM - no I haven't heard of them Bromfield Aquatics are seasonal too, it isn't even possible to browse their website at the moment.

Don't know why you can't browse their site out of season. The site where I got mine from last year you can... www.pondplants.co.uk/system/index.htmlCheck out the white iris, Snowdrift, Rita, is that yours? Their plants were good as well, well packaged and labelled. Keith

Rita I think the Purple one is Iris versicolor (American Water Iris) which I just happened to get today and add to the margins.

Tell me if I'm right, I'm not very good at plant names. It just looks very similar to the one I bought today. Paul

They'll probably turn up when you least expect it and will have been right next to where you have just looked ;D. I just planted some Dutch Iris bulbs today along with some Freesia and Anemone just to add colour around the garden. Paul
