I'm that angry! Apparently the Government is cutting funding to British Waterways because they have overspent on subsidising farmers. I live near quite a few canals and am furious by the headline, but can't help wondering how the funding cuts are going to affect the canals. It will probably slow re-development and maintenance schemes, but I can't help wondering if it's funding the Government have decided to cut because it's not as important as other projects.
Sorry to rant but I'm really really REALLY p***ed off by the news.

You could also contact the woman mentioned at the end of this article www.britishwaterways.co.uk/newsroom/stories/mp_speaks_up.html as she should be able to point you at various initiatives to raise awareness of, and campaign for, British inland waterways. To be effective, any letter needs to be appropriately worded and addressed to the right quarters. It does seem perverse of the British government to cut funding to the maintenance of what has become a growth industry for leisure pursuits, a haven for wildlife and is also enjoying a resurgence of commercial interest for the cheap, safe and ecologically sound transport of goods.
