Hi i have a wildlife pond with no fish in and for the past few weeks there has been a lot of black flies hovering over the water. I dont no wether its because of the hot weather or theres something im not doing to the pond that i should. The water is crystal clear and has water lillies and oxygenating plants in and plenty of wildlife. I just dont understand why these flys are sudenly hovering over the water.

Mmmm not sure what they could be Snowowl not an expert I'm afraid. However if your water is crystal clear and you have plenty of wildlife it sounds like you have a good setup going.
Praps one of the other members will know what they are, there are a few that have wildlife ponds in their garden and on allotments too.

Are they midges....most mosquito type flies lay their eggs in water. Some species will also come down and feed/drink along the edge of the water line.
