I have three, slightly bigger, in my pond, alongwith the golden orfe, I rescued from our previous garden's pond! ;D Be careful as if they are spooked, they can jump and if that is in the wrong direction, it could be outside the pond where they land!! A couple of points with Orfe Susie....they like a lot of room to swim. Goldfish and carp etc are quite happy in weedy, muddy ponds but orfe require room.
They can grow big and grow big very quickly. My golden orfe at work are nearly 18" long and it's only taken a couple of years to get that big.
They will take all the frost, cold and ice that the UK weather throws at them but they hate the heat. When water gets warm, it contains less dissolved oxygen and orfe just love moving, well oxygenated water. This will become evident especially in stormy weather when dissolved oxgygen levels fall to dangerously low levels. You might see your orfe gasping for air at the surface....especially in the mornings or, the do have a nasty habit of jumping out.
But they're lovely, lively fish. Enjoy them but if there's any way you can get air in the pond, they'd really appreciate it !!!

Thanks for the info Andy. The water coming out of the pump is at a height and drops into the water and also there's a small fountain at the other end that I run a couple of times a week. I've also got some pond weed, which I keep under control, and a water lily. Do you think this is suffice? Thanks again for your help! Susie x P.S. I'm sooooooo relieved that you like the Blue Orfe ;D

I'm sooooooo relieved that you like the Blue Orfe ;D That should be sufficient, Susie! The worst times are warm hot NIGHTS, but as long as the fountain is on permanently things will be fine. Mine were fine last year, with NO filter and only a solar powered air pump for company. Don't buy one of these, as they only work when it's sunny. Keith
