Hi all, Here are a couple of pics of our pond-in-a-wok; the floating plant is water lettuce:

Wonderful CC, just goes to show that you don't need a huge amount of water for a pond - have you seen any frogs or other wildlife using it?

Hi Rita ... we had a couple of newts earlier in the year, and have heard but not seen a frog - and there are definitely lots of nameless wriggly things in the 'pond' ;D The wok is one of those huge cast-iron things which didn't fit on our cooker, and was takin up space in a kitchen cabinet ... so at least it's put to good use now ;D ... cheers ...

Oh that is so pretty CC. Thank you so much for sharing. Just one question, coz it's difficult to see from the photo - have you sunk the wok into the ground or is it just sitting on the ground?

What a wonderful idea. I have got just the place for something like that. My DIL always has a large bowl on the garden table with water lettuce and a couple of small stones. It looks very nice although after a frog jumped out onto my food during a BBQ, I am not so happy about it anymore.

Hiya Pip ... I'd love the frog, but not if it jumped onto my steak! Thanks for your comments, peeps ... I was a bit unsure about posting it on the 'pond' thread where there are so many 'real' ponds . But if anyone is thinking of doing something similar, why not go down to your local second-hand store/charity shop, where there are loads of suitable and/or quirky containers ;D ... cheers ...

my ma for years had a stone sink as a pond, frogs used it every year, and it attracted dragonflies. ah memories! my neighbor has a 2' by 1' deep glazed pot as one, her oh blocked up the hole with some blokey filler stuff, her son came over to fish for a pair of tiddlers, and she's away!

Any container holding water and plants should be able to be called a pond. I think it's a very novel idea. Threw my wok away years ago as I couldn't get on with repeatedly having to condition it.
