Mick? Anyone? I popped into the GC and was silly enough to stop and look at the seeds. I've brought home a T&M packet of mixed cactus to try. It says on the packet it can be sown anytime - any more specifics muchly welcomed please!

Hiya 4 pygs.
No, don't sow it now. Have you got a propagator? If so, I would leave it until March. If not then leave until May.
Remind me nearer the time and I'll take you through the best way (imho of course!)

Before I forget to ask. My cactus has flowered and now there are some seeds on it. Can I grow them on somehow? I am not to sure about any little flies maybe managing to have fertilized it. Do I leave the seeds on until when you start explaining about growing cacti ? I have so far failed to grow them on from seed. Dutchy

I grew a Wilkinsons packet, cheap to start with then reduced a few years ago, loads grew, not many different varieties though. I felt so protective about them for some reason. There are some of them on the window ledge now, quite tall & healthy and very prickly.

Thanks, I'll wait for Spring then and ask for more help then, no doubt!

Dutchy, that is a very healthy cactus. Let the seed pods dry before removing the seeds and then we can try germinating them next spring.

Thank you Mick, they seem to like my south facing window. The seeds can be seen in the pod. At first the pods were green and now see through. Does that mean they are ripe? Dutchy

Are they dry now? If so you can take the pods off. Suggest you put them into a paper bag then keep somewhere cool until spring. My unsown seeds from this year are actually in the fridge.
If still a but juicy I would leave for a while.

We shall hold you to that Mick...I bought some 'cactus mixed' seeds from the GC last month as well and was wondering when I could sow them.

Does anyone remember what the name of the cacti was that was featured on G W last week that absorbed computer wireless waves or something rather similar - maybe just hype but I want to get one regardless j w x
