Dunno why I never thought of this before... I've just put an old stainless steel table I had "in stock" (ex pub, bought for 35 quid) in the newly renovated GH (full concrete floor, mrskp...) as a potting bench. Just need one of those big plastic potting-up trays now...
Table is 6' x 2' with a shelf the same size under, is rotproof, easy to keep clean and won't harbour bugs. Every large town has an auctioneer selling catering equipment at literally "knock-down prices"... go, buy!!

Noted ! My £5 potting tray (from Instore) sits on an old BBQ that was being chucked out by neighbours over the road. MY OH was too embarrassed to help me retrieve it from their front garden (having asked permission first obviously) but then wanted to grab it to use it as a ..........BBQ oddly enough. I told him to go and find his own BBQ as this one was now my potting bench. ;D

I have an old NHS trolley, stainless steel, got it free, scrapped by a clinic, it has big casters two drawers and a lower shelf, and one of those poundstretcher potting trays, only mine was £4, it has useful storage pots built in and somewhere to stick your trowel dibber etc......... bargain IMHO! Poundstretcher supplied the shelving units at £8 each, they are very adaptable and collapse down when they are in the way, very handy when growing toms.

ok, in for a penny... I looked at the pile of firewood that was the salvaged staging taken out to concrete the floor, and thought I'd do the job properly: second s/s table minus it's top, 12foot lengths of tanalised (tantalised the timber guy called it) path edging and now... an end to end bench for all those cuttings and early sowing. Can't resist sharing it with you, can't wait to get in there and use it: OM

Wow, just came across this thread, must have missed it while on hols I guess. Fab ideas Got an old BBQ stand in my top shed with an old cupbard door on the top for a work surface, it's covered in allsorts (rubbish )and may now move it into the new poly carb kennel, I'm bound to use it more in there. You made a fab job with those s/s tables OM

My husband made me a lovely potting bench when we built the shed, but then all his stuff began to creep onto it and now I do my potting on a couple of planks balanced on the wheelie bins outside by the compost heap. Sigh. Actually, it's not that bad, I think I prefer to do it outside, there is no need to clear up spills!

I'm with you Lemon, it's nice to do a bit of potting outside. I've got an old circular white plastic table outside the GH, full of clutter at the moment though. Have a small plank cross country in the GH for rainy days. Will use my new Poly Kennel too when I get it kitted out properly. Still at thinking stage for the inside, it needs to be easily removable for when I grow Toms etc in it. May need to get the OH to help, I get the ideas but he's quicker at putting things together than me.
