Suggestions please Mick I've tried wrapping them in newspaper, but that wasn't very successful - especially when trying to deal with a pot this full The Cactus below is pricklier than a prickly thing, the spines are in fact hooks - it should carry a health warning BTW I have forgotten what variety these are!

Indeed Rita - it's just pain I'm afraid.
Mind you, these 2 are relatively easy. Try a large Ferocactus where you have weight and enormous spines.
These 2 are potted very nicely indeed. Do they need repotting?
Both Mammillaras - the top one elongata, not sure about the bottom one. What colour are the flowers?
I have had the hooked ones attached to my ears and nose. Not easy to get them off.

I don't like pain Mick - I am relieved to hear that you don't think they need re-potting <wipes sweat from brow smiley> The elongata has yellow flowers and the other has pink I don't like the sound of Ferocactus - it does indeed sound rather vicious. I hope you have someone at hand to help you remove spines from your ears and nose - shudder the thought - ouch!!!

Nope. Mrs cactus won't come near.
The other Mam may well be bocasana.
Opuntias are 5ods to repot as well.

Nope. Mrs cactus won't come near. But will she let you use her tweezers, or have do you have your own? As you reckon mine don't need re-potting, could you explain how to tell when they do please?

They just look healthy Rita and if you are not keen, leave them. They may go on quite happily for years. I have one really nasty cactus that I have had for about 30 years and have put off repotting for the last 10 years. It had never flowered and then in 2005, out of the blue it flowered and did again last year.
The reason behind repotting is to check the root system, give it something fresh and a bigger pot if needed.
When were they last potted?

Rita, personally, I would repot but I think they could go another year if you don't want to.
