Plocket, I grow Kangaroo Paw.
I grew them initially from seed which came up like bits of grass. Very hard to keep them through the first winter as they rotted if too wet or shrivelled up if too dry, however, once past that stage they seem easy peasy. I have several large pots of them now which I split in Spring. In the winter I cut the leaves back and bring them under cover to keep them frost free. Just occasional water needed.

Thanks Mick - so will a cool porch be ok over winter? And how far should I cut the leaves back in winter? Not that I need to do it for a while - the plant is covered in flowers at the moment!!

Plocket, I think a porch should be fine. I am leaving one plant out in the garden this winter to see how hardy it is.
I cut the leaves back by half for no particular reason other than to make the plants smaller for winter storage so you can leave them as they are if you want.

Brilliant - thank Mick. Now I just need the builders to pull their fingers out and build the blessed porch!!! It looks as though some of the leaves must have been cut back before I was given the plant so I'll see how it looks before deciding what to do. Thanks very much for your help Mick - I know who to shout for if I've got more questions!
