I've LOTS of seeds on my Eucomis (pineapple lily) and I'd like to try and get them to grow. Is it worth the bother Dee? And if so, do I sow them now and keep them indoors or wait till the Spring? Will it be years before they flower assuming they grow? You are our bulb expert Dee so I hope you don't mind me asking you. I love these plants so the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. Usually I grow them in clay pots and cut the heads off after flowering, then overwinter in my GH. This year I didn't get round to it and they are loaded with seeds so I'd like to have a go with them with your advice. Cheers!

I have one too and have loads of seed heads so would be useful to know. Did I see on GW that you can also propagate from leaf cuttings, the tv was on but I was not paying full attention.

You can grow them from seed, however one of the problems in the UK is getting ripe seed, it doesn't usually ripen very well as it's too late in the year. Wait until the seeds are ripe, and then sow in a gritty compost, keep frost free over winter. They may not germinate until late Spring (many bulb seeds germinate at the same time the parent bulb start into growth).
Keep potting on as needed, and feed weakly at every other watering. 3-5 years on you will get some flowers.

Thanks Dee. I think I'll give them a go then. This plant flowered very early on in the summer so I think the seeds are ready now. I presume I can let them sit in my conservatory all winter as it's not got central heating and is only just above freezing in the very cold weather.
