There was once a thread about pitcher plants etc but I can't find it so I shall start another (rebel). I was clearing out the conservatory for the winter this morning and had an idle look at my pitcher plant. I bought it about 2 years ago from "practically dead" section of the GH and tried to give it some TLC but it stubbornly stayed looking at death's door but now it has pitchers!! Because I'd plonked it out of the way and just given it some rainwater every day the pitchers were trapped in the leaves so I have put in back in its hanging basket on the wall and extricated all the pitchers and jolly wonderful it is too. Never give up is the motto of this fascinating story....I'm sure you're all thrilled for me!

I bet it's been quietly eating your flies all summer, amazing how many things thrive with neglect

That's the one, thanks MrsKp! You're much more alert than me (Britain needs lerts - very old joke!). Now I'm awake legally and OH is up and about I just had a look at the pitchers and they are HUGE! Well, 2" - 3." How did I miss them before?? I took two cuttings months ago and stuck one in a jar of water in a plastic bag and one gritty compost, also in a plastic bag (very scientific comparison...). I've been chucking rainwater in them whenever I watered the others. They are both still alive and presumably rooted so I shall check them now too. I've been feeling like a rubbish gardener for a while but this has cheered me up!

I wanted to go back and buy the whole morrison's stock, but limited myself to just the one venus fly trap instead. I've a feeling I've planted my pitchers in too deep a pot, but have left them outside to get drenched occasionally and hope that that's enough to find a slugs bum sticking out one day. I subscribe to the "trial and error" theory of gardening. Sling it in and see what happens. ;D I'm just finishing this cuppa, then donning my warmest garb (as it looks chilly out there) to clear out behind the shed and start digging my new border (well it's next door's border but I have claimed it as she's unlikely to want it - praise be to the non-gardeners who let their neighbour's play unhindered!), The only problem I can foresee is that when neighbour's child falls into the gooseberry bushes next summer.
