I have a list of a few I would like to grow [from T&M]. I think all of them say experience useful, but I wondered if anyone could give me any advice as to how tricky any of them might be. They are: Trifolium Rubens Catananche Caerulea Knautia Macedonia Aubretia Cascade. I have had very mixed results growing perennials this way before, considering it says on the same website that Astrantias are experience useful and I have not managed to germinate one from 3 packets, I would rather not waste my time or money if I am heading for failure! Any advice appreciated.

Can't help Jonah, not done much growing Perenials from seed other than a few Primroses, Aqualigia, Hollyhock and Foxgloves from my own garden. If I'm honest I just took pot luck with those . You need some advice from one of our more experienced bods

I grow Knautia every year to sell. I love it! And it's no problem at all....don't really understand why experience is necessary. And none of the others are tricky either as far as I know!

I think they are just being careful - I assume that experience means you've sown a few seeds, in which case LP has expenrience.

LP probably has a higher germination rate than me! ;D Good to hear that about the Knautia, it is very depressing when not one seed germinates from 3 packs, but I will leave the remainder alone and see what happens. I think the astrantia should be labelled 'impossible, unless you forget you've sown them and get a surprise in 3 years!' ;D Thanks for the feedback, I'll probably just go for it and let you know how I get on.
